Many people new to web programming often ask what language they should learn and what the differences are. Although HTML and CSS are among the most recommended web languages, PHP and JavaScript are also recommended. These two languages although scripting languages are different in their functions, syntax, and usage when building a website.

Differences Edit

PHP Edit

  • Server side (interpreted by the webserver)
  • Mainly used to perform server side tasks
  • Used to generate web-site templates

JavaScript Edit

  • Client side (interpreted by the web browser)
  • Mainly used to perform client side functions such as modifying web content
  • Can be injected into the web page via browser console
